A VIRTUAL CHALLENGE TO FIGHT CANINE CANCER
Walk, hike, or run from anywhere in April 2026!
How it works: Log your miles all month, raise funds through pledges or donations, and help support canine cancer research and treatment for dogs everywhere.
What is Miles for Blaze?
Miles for Blaze is a month-long, virtual fundraiser benefitting The Perseus Foundation where supporters commit to moving (walking, hiking, and/or running) throughout April. Together, we’ll turn those miles into impact for dogs fighting cancer. Participate from anywhere, go at your own pace, and invite friends, family, and coworkers to support you with a flat donation or a pledge per mile. Whether you’re aiming for 5 miles or 100+, every step helps fund better options, better outcomes, and more time with the dogs we love.
To keep things fun (and to celebrate the people making the biggest impact), we’ll be awarding prizes to the top 3 fundraisers at the end of April.
How to Participate
Step 1 — Register
Register through Givebutter and set up your personal fundraising page. Download detailed instructions on how to register and share your fundraiser below.
Step 2 — Move & log your miles
Throughout April, log your miles hiking, running, and/or walking. Track your miles however you like, or use the provided template below!
Step 3 — Fundraise
Ask friends/family/coworkers to support your miles with:
– Pledge per mile (e.g. $1/mile)
– Flat donation (any amount)
Optional: Join the Strava community to connect with other participants, share routes, and stay motivated!
Event Merchandise
We’re partnering with Bonfire for event-specific Miles for Blaze merch. Every purchase helps raise additional funds, and it’s a great way to rep the cause while you’re out getting your miles in.
Where Your Donation Goes
Proceeds from Miles for Blaze support canine cancer treatment and research by helping families access advanced care and by strengthening programs that push promising therapies forward.
The Perseus Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides financial assistance to families navigating a cancer diagnosis in their canine companions and supports access to novel, often costly treatments. Your support helps reduce the barrier to care – and helps more dogs get the second chance they deserve.

Blaze was our heart dog and adventure buddy – loyal, brave, smart as a whip, and the kind of dog who made every day better. After his cancer diagnosis, we learned firsthand how devastating (and expensive) treatment can be for families who would do anything for their dog.
Miles for Blaze exists to honor him and to help other families facing that same fight – with more support, more options, and more hope.

Q: Do I have to live in Maryland to participate?
No – this is a virtual event. Participate from anywhere!
Q: What activities count?
Walking, hiking, and running all count.
Q: Do I have to use Strava?
No – Strava is optional. You can report your miles via email.
Q: How do pledges per mile work?
You can ask supporters to donate a flat amount, or donate based on your miles (example: $2/mile). You’ll share your fundraiser link, and supporters can contribute anytime. Don’t forget to let your pledgers know how many miles you have completed!
Q: Can I participate with my dog?
Yes! Miles with your canine companion are always encouraged!
Q: Is there a minimum required donation?
No. There is a recommended minimum donation of $20, but it’s not required to participate!
